Frame Relay

Fitur Frame Relay
Beberapa fitur frame relay adalah sebagai berikut:
  1. Kecepatan tinggi
  2. Bandwidth Dinamik
  3. Performansi yang baik/ Good Performance
  4. Overhead yang rendah dan kehandalah tinggi (High Reliability)
Perangkat Frame Relay
Sebuah jaringan frame relay terdiri dari endpoint (PC, server, komputer host), perangkat akses frame relay (bridge, router, host, frame relay access device/FRAD) dan perangkat jaringan (packet switch, router, multiplexer T1/E1). Perangkat-perangkat tersebut dibagi menjadi dua kategori yang berbeda:
framerelaywan.gif
  • DTE: Data Terminating Equipment
DTE adalah node, biasanya milik end-user dan perangkat internetworking. Perangkat DTE ini mencakup endpoint dan perangkat akses pada jaringan Frame Relay. DTE yang memulai suatu pertukaran informasi.
  • DCE: Data Communication Equipment
DCE adalah perangkat internetworking pengontrol carrier. Perangkat-perangkat ini juga mencakup perangkat akses, teatpi terpusat di sekitar perangkat jaringan. DCE merespon pertukaran informasi yang dimulai oleh perangkat DTE.
Virtual Circuit (VC) Frame Relay
Pengantar Virtual Circuit (VC)
Terdapat dua tipe virtual circuit (VC):
  • Switched Virtual Circuit (SVC)
  • Permanent Virtual Circuit (PVC)
Switched Virtual Circuit (SVC)
Switched Virtual Circuits (SVC), adalah koneksi sementara yang digunakan ketika terjadi transfer data antar perangkat DTE melewati jaringan Frame Relay. Terdapat empat status pada sebuah SVC:
svc.gif
Empat status pada SVC :
  1. Call setup
  2. Data transfer
  3. Idling
  4. Call termination
Status SVC
Call Setup
svc_setup.gif
Call Setup: Dalam status awal memulai komunikasi, virtual circuit (vc) antar dua perangkat DTE Frame Relay terbentuk.
Data Transfer
svc_data.gif
Data Transfer: Kemudian, data ditransfer antar perangkat DTE melalui virtual circuit (vc).
Idling
svc_idle.gif
Idling: Pada kondisi idling, koneksi masih ada dan terbuka, tetapi transfer data telah berhenti.
Call Termination
svc_terminate.gif
Call Termination: Setelah koneksi idle untuk beberapa perioda waktu tertentu, koneksi antar dua DTE akan diputus.
Permanent Virtual Circuit (PVC)
pvc.gif

Hanya terdapat 2 status :
  • Data transfer
  • Idling
Format Frame Frame Relay
Struktur Frame

Dalam sebuah frame Frame Relay, paket data user tidak berubah, Frame Relay menambahkan header dua-byte pada paket. Struktur frame adalah sebagai berikut:
framerelay_frame.gif
Cyclic redundancy check (CRC)

* Mengoperasikan jaringan area dengan batas geography yang sangat luas
* Memungkinkan akses melalui interface serial yang beroperasi pada kecepatan yang rendah.
* Memberikan koneksi full-time (selalu ON) atau part-time (dial-on-demand)
* Menghubungkan perangkat2 yang terpisah melewati area global yang luas.

3. Modem, yang memberikan layanan interface voice, termasuk channel service units/digital service units (CSU/DSU) yang memberikan interface layanan T1/E1; Terminal Adapters/Network Termination 1 (TA/NT1) yang menginterface layanan Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN).

Data Link Layer WAN

* EIA/TIA-232
* EIA/TIA-449
* V.24
* V.35
* X.21
* G.703
* EIA-530

Protocol WAN layer Data Link

WAN mendefinisikan umumnya encapsulation data link layer yang dihubungkan dengan line serial synchronous seperti dijabarkan berikut ini:
Protocol WAN

Protocol WAN

* High-Level Data Link Control (HDLC) – adalah standard ISO yang bisa saja tidak saling kompatibel antar layanan yang berbeda. HDLC mendukung konfigurasi Point-to-Point ataupun Multi-point.
* Protocol2 WAN Data Link Layer mendukung protocol2 baik protocol2 conectionless maupun conection-oriented layer tinggi.

Komunikasi WAN

•First-generation: Analog cellular systems (450-900 MHz)
– Frequency shift keying for signaling
– FDMA for spectrum sharing
– NMT (Europe), AMPS (US)
•Second-generation: Digital cellular systems (900, 1800 MHz)
– TDMA/CDMA for spectrum sharing
– Circuit switching
– GSM (Europe), IS-136 (US), PDC (Japan)
•2.5G: Packet switching extensions
– Digital: GSM to GPRS
– Analog: AMPS to CDPD
•3G:
– High speed, data and Internet services
– IMT-2000

Tujuan Muliplexing
- meningkatkan effisiensi penggunaan bandwidth / kapasitas saluran transmisi dengan cara berbagi akses bersama.

Jenis Teknik Multiplexing
Teknik Multiplexing yang umum digunakan adalah :
a. Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) : - Synchronous TDM
- Asynchronous TDM
b. Frequency Division Multiplexing (FDM)
c. Code Division Multiplexing (CDM)
d. Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM)
e. Optical code Division Multiplexing (ODM)

Simple Past

FORM

[VERB+ed] or irregular verbs

Examples:

  • You called Debbie.
  • Did you call Debbie?
  • You did not call Debbie.

USE 1 Completed Action in the Past

Use the Simple Past to express the idea that an action started and finished at a specific time in the past. Sometimes, the speaker may not actually mention the specific time, but they do have one specific time in mind.

Examples:

  • I saw a movie yesterday.
  • I didn't see a play yesterday.
  • Last year, I traveled to Japan.
  • Last year, I didn't travel to Korea.
  • Did you have dinner last night?
  • She washed her car.
  • He didn't wash his car.

USE 2 A Series of Completed Actions

We use the Simple Past to list a series of completed actions in the past. These actions happen 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and so on.

Examples:

  • I finished work, walked to the beach, and found a nice place to swim.
  • He arrived from the airport at 8:00, checked into the hotel at 9:00, and met the others at 10:00.
  • Did you add flour, pour in the milk, and then add the eggs?

USE 3 Duration in Past

The Simple Past can be used with a duration which starts and stops in the past. A duration is a longer action often indicated by expressions such as: for two years, for five minutes, all day, all year, etc.

Examples:

  • I lived in Brazil for two years.
  • Shauna studied Japanese for five years.
  • They sat at the beach all day.
  • They did not stay at the party the entire time.
  • We talked on the phone for thirty minutes.
  • A: How long did you wait for them?
B: We waited for one hour.

USE 4 Habits in the Past

The Simple Past can also be used to describe a habit which stopped in the past. It can have the same meaning as "used to." To make it clear that we are talking about a habit, we often add expressions such as: always, often, usually, never, when I was a child, when I was younger, etc.

Examples:

  • I studied French when I was a child.
  • He played the violin.
  • He didn't play the piano.
  • Did you play a musical instrument when you were a kid?
  • She worked at the movie theater after school.
  • They never went to school, they always skipped class.

USE 5 Past Facts or Generalizations

The Simple Past can also be used to describe past facts or generalizations which are no longer true. As in USE 4 above, this use of the Simple Past is quite similar to the expression "used to."

Examples:

  • She was shy as a child, but now she is very outgoing.
  • He didn't like tomatoes before.
  • Did you live in Texas when you were a kid?
  • People paid much more to make cell phone calls in the past.

IMPORTANT When-Clauses Happen First

Clauses are groups of words which have meaning but are often not complete sentences. Some clauses begin with the word "when" such as "when I dropped my pen..." or "when class began..." These clauses are called when-clauses, and they are very important. The examples below contain when-clauses.

Examples:

  • When I paid her one dollar, she answered my question.
  • She answered my question when I paid her one dollar.

When-clauses are important because they always happen first when both clauses are in the Simple Past. Both of the examples above mean the same thing: first, I paid her one dollar, and then, she answered my question. It is not important whether "when I paid her one dollar" is at the beginning of the sentence or at the end of the sentence. However, the example below has a different meaning. First, she answered my question, and then, I paid her one dollar.

Example:

  • I paid her one dollar when she answered my question.

ADVERB PLACEMENT

The examples below show the placement for grammar adverbs such as: always, only, never, ever, still, just, etc.

Examples:

  • You just called Debbie.
  • Did you just call Debbie?

ACTIVE / PASSIVE

Examples:

  • Tom repaired the car. Active
  • The car was repaired by Tom. Passive

Simple Past (Past Simple)

The simple past expresses an action in the past taking place once, never, several times. It can also be used for actions taking place one after another or in the middle of another action.

Form of Simple Past

Positive Negative Question
no differences I spoke. I did not speak. Did I speak?

For irregular verbs, use the past form. For regular verbs, just add ed.

Exceptions in Spelling when Adding ed

Exceptions in spelling when adding ed Example

after a final e only add d

love – loved
final consonant after a short, stressed vowel
or l as final consonant after a vowel is doubled
admit – admitted
travel – travelled
final y after a consonant becomes i hurry – hurried

Use of Simple Past

  • action in the past taking place once, never or several times

Example: He visited his parents every weekend.

  • actions in the past taking place one after the other

Example: He came in, took off his coat and sat down.

  • action in the past taking place in the middle of another action

Example: When I was having breakfast, the phone suddenly rang.

  • if sentences type II (If I talked, …)

Example: If I had a lot of money, I would share it with you.

Simple Past Tense

Simple Past Tense digunakan untuk menyatakan kalimat yang sudah berlalu

Rumus Simple Past Tense

S + was,were + adjective / S + V2 + Object

Example : I was happy yesterday, I went to school with my father this morning

Negative : You were not happy yesterday, I didn't go to school with my father

Interogative : Were you happy yesterday ? , Did you go to school ?

Simple Past Tense

The simple past tense is used to talk about actions that happened at a specific time in the past. You state when it happened using a time adverb.

You form the simple past of a verb by adding -ed onto the end of a regular verb but, irregular verb forms have to be learned.

Simple Past Timeline

Simple past tense timeline

For example:

"Last year I took my exams."

"I got married in 1992."

It can be used to describe events that happened over a period of time in the past but not now.

For example:

"I lived in South Africa for two years."

The simple past tense is also used to talk about habitual or repeated actions that took place in the past.

For example:

"When I was a child we always went to the seaside on bank holidays."

Take a look at the following conjugation chart. Notice from the above dialogue and following chart that the present continuous (progressive) is used to describe what is happening at the moment. It is also used to describe a plan in the near future (this evening, next week, on Saturday, etc.). The present continuous (progressive) is often used with: now, at the moment, today, this morning - afternoon - evening.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  • The present continuous (progressive) is used only with action verbs. Example: I am working at the moment NOT I am believing you.
  • The present continuous (progressive) is also used to describe an action which is happening around this moment: Example: I'm reading 'Just in Time' this week. I'm not reading the book at this particular moment, but around this time.

The present progressive is formed by combining the verb "to be" with the present participle. (The present participle is merely the "-ing" form of a verb.)

I am studying.
I am studying with María.

In English, present progressive can be used to describe what is happening now, or what will happen in the future.

I am studying now.
I am studying with María tonight.

In Spanish, the present progressive is only used to describe an action that is in the process of taking place. It is not used for future actions.

I am studying now.
(use present progressive)

I am studying with María tonight.
(do not use present progressive)

To form the present progressive in Spanish, combine a form of "estar" with the present participle.

Estoy hablando.
I am speaking.

Juan está comiendo.
John is eating.

María está escribiendo una carta.
Mary is writing a letter.

In order to form the present progressive, you must know how to conjugate the verb estar, and how to form the present participle. You already know how to conjugate the verb estar:

estar

estoy
estás
está
estamos
estáis
están

To form the present participle of regular -ar verbs, add -ando to the stem of the verb.

hablar: hablando
(hablar - ar + ando)

trabajar: trabajando
(trabajar - ar + ando)

estudiar: estudiando
(estudiar - ar + ando)

To form the present participle of regular -er and -ir verbs, add -iendo to the stem of the verb.

comer: comiendo
(comer - er + iendo)

hacer: haciendo
(hacer - er + iendo)

vivir: viviendo
(vivir - ir + iendo)

escribir: escribiendo
(escribir - ir + iendo)

To form the present participle of -ir stem changing verbs, change e:i and o:u in the stem, and then add -iendo to the stem of the verb.

servir: sirviendo
pedir: pidiendo
decir: diciendo

dormir: durmiendo
morir: muriendo
poder: pudiendo

Sometimes when forming the present participle it is necessary to change the spelling of a word so that it agrees with the way it is pronounced. We call this an "orthographic" change. Here are some common examples:

caer: cayendo
creer: creyendo
huir: huyendo
ir: yendo
influir: influyendo
oír: oyendo
traer: trayendo
leer: leyendo
seguir: siguiendo

The following examples illustrate the rules for forming the present participle.

hablar: hablando (-ar)
comer: comiendo (-er)
vivir: viviendo (-ir)
decir: diciendo (e:i)
dormir: durmiendo (o:u)
leer: leyendo (orthographic)
seguir: siguiendo (orthographic)

To form the present progressive, simply conjugate the verb estar to agree with the subject of the sentence, and follow it with the present participle.

Juan está comiendo pan.
John is eating bread.

María y Carmen están hablando con nosotros.
Mary and Carmen are speaking with us.

Remember, only use the present progressive for actions that are "in progress." Compare the uses of the present indicative with the uses of the present progressive.

Estudio español. (Present Indicative)

I study Spanish.
I am studying Spanish (these days).
I do study Spanish.

Estoy estudiando español. (Present Progressive)

I am studying (right now, at this moment) Spanish.

It is important to remember that you would never use the present progressive to say something like "We are going to Spain this summer." Use present progressive only for actions that are "in progress."

Let's add two more verb flashcards: one for present progressive and one for practice in forming the present participle:

Present Progressive

estar + present participle
I am speaking (right now, at this moment)
Never use present progressive for something that will occur in the future.

Present Participle (-ando, -iendo, yendo)

hablar - hablando (-ar)
comer - comiendo (-er)
vivir - viviendo (-ir)
decir - diciendo (e:i)
dormir - durmiendo (o:u)
leer - leyendo (orthographic)
seguir: siguiendo (orthographic)

The present progressive puts emphasis on the course or duration of an action.

Time line

The present progressive is used for actions going on in the moment of speaking and for actions taking place only for a short period of time. It is also used to express development and actions that are arranged for the near future.

Present progressive is also known as present continuous.

How do we make the Simple Present Tense?

There are three important exceptions:

  1. For positive sentences, we do not normally use the auxiliary.
  2. For the 3rd person singular (he, she, it), we add s to the main verb or es to the auxiliary.
  3. For the verb to be, we do not use an auxiliary, even for questions and negatives.

Look at these examples with the main verb like:

How do we use the Simple Present Tense?

We use the simple present tense when:

  • the action is general
  • the action happens all the time, or habitually, in the past, present and future
  • the action is not only happening now
  • the statement is always true

John drives a taxi.

past

present

future

It is John's job to drive a taxi. He does it every day. Past, present and future.

Look at these examples:

  • I live in New York.
  • The Moon goes round the Earth.
  • John drives a taxi.
  • He does not drive a bus.
  • We do not work at night.
  • Do you play football?

Note that with the verb to be, we can also use the simple present tense for situations that are not general. We can use the simple present tense to talk about now. Look at these examples of the verb "to be" in the simple present tense - some of them are general, some of them are now:

Am I right?
Tara is not at home.
You are happy.

past

present

future

The situation is now.

I am not fat.
Why are you so beautiful?
Ram is tall.

past

present

future

The situation is general. Past, present and future.
